Associated with the ECM label since the former '70s, Rypdal's performing is emphatically an acquired taste, victimization place and dense sounds in an unusual mode. Classically trained as a piano player, Rypdal was largely self-taught on guitar and in the outset to the highest degree influenced by Jimi Hendrix. He tended to Oslo University, where he was taught the Lydian chromatic construct of tonal organisation by its author, George Russell. Rypdal played with Russell for a clock time and started an association with Jan Garbarek in the former '60s. He formed the group Odyssey in 1972, and has light-emitting rectifying valve diverse small groups since the mid-'70s. An important guitarist and composer in Norway, Terje Rypdal gained a religious cult following in the United States. He recorded steadily for ECM since 1972 (using such sidemen at times as Garbarek, pianist Bobo Stenson, cornetist Palle Mikkelborg, bassist Miroslav Vitous, drummer Jack DeJohnette, and cellist David Darling). His iI before roger Sessions (for the Karusell label in 1968, and a famed 1969 Baden-Baden, Germany, concert assign out by MPS) are more difficult to find. |

Artist Yoshitomo Nara Gets a Big Head
Yoshitomo Naras Puff Marshie is part of the same group show, titled I Wont Grow Up, as E.V. Days bondage Barbie. One might think of these two twisted girl figures as polar opposites: Days glam doll to Naras blobby sourpuss, but wed argue that both are inspired by the very same thing: childhood, just before all the icky stuff creeps in. Emma Pearse

By 1992, the band had recorded a mates of demos and opened shows for bands like Sentenced, Amorphis, and Belial. The exposure attracted Finnish label Osmose Productions, world Health Organization added them to their roster. After rearranging their batting order, replacing Holappa and Halonen with bassist Taneli Jarva and guitarist Jarno Anttila, Impaled Nazarene recorded their debut album Tol Cormpt Norz Norz Norz, which surprisingly hit number 40 on the Finnish charts. In 1993 they released their second record album Ugra-Karma along with an EP entitled Satanic Masowhore. Finland Finland Perkele, primitively coroneted Hail to Finland, was released in 1994 and was banned by major chainstores due to lyrical content. During a 1995 recording session K. Luttinen discontinue the band and was replaced by Reima Kellokoski. After a European tour the band returned to the studio to record the album Latex Cult and the EP Motorpenis. At the end of the recordings Jarva left the band and was replaced by Jani Lehtosaari. In 1996 they toured Europe extensively, performing with Dark Tranquillity, Cannibal Corpse, Immolation, Angel Corpse, Gehennah, and Vader. Hare Krishnas slapped a case on the band and Osmose in 1997, claiming the cover art for Ugra-Karma was offensive. Osmose settled the case and re-released the album with a different cover. Their one-sixth release, Transport, hit the stores in 1998 which they followed with broad touring through and through Europe, the U.S., and Mexico. They went back to the studio in 1999 to record book a split 7" with Driller Killer and the album Nihil, that features yet some other lineup change with Alexi "Wild Child" Laiho replacement Mika Pääkkö on guitar. Osmose followed Nihil by releasing the compilation Decennary of Decadence that includes demos, unreleased tracks, and the long out of print Goat Perversion EP. |
